Life is a journey of faith; and each of us is responsible for the way we choose to travel. But more important, from our point of view, are the ‘group tours’; for the Christian life is anything but a private journey.
We try to entice other travellers out of their private itineraries, and into the public covenant which Christians share.
Christian travellers also gather for meal breaks. Regular nourishment in word and sacrament is crucial for people on the move. Although some people still try to find sustenance at fast food counters, that only takes the edge off, and fails to satisfy our real hunger.
Our meal breaks are not merely self-serving, of course: as the leader of our tour keeps reminding us, we can help other hungry travelers along the road find food, even if they don’t come to our table; and so practising how to do this is at least half the point of our gatherings.
