“There’s a feeling of home at St Augustine’s. I always look forward to choir practice.I even give up other things to go because I like what we sing—great music!”
Saint Augustine’s thrives on the amazing gifts God has given our people, and we encourage everyone to get involved. Our members are amateur cooks, photographers, musicians, editors—and almost anything else you could imagine. By using their unique skills and interests, we’re a healthy, happy and life-giving community. Here are some of the ways we get involved as members of St Augustine’s:
Our choir of dedicated amateur singers leads our worship. There are rehearsals on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. Anyone who loves to sing is welcome to join!
The Altar Guild
Committed to making our worship beautiful, the members of the Altar Guild prepare the church for worship and decorate for special occasions.
The Pastoral Care Group
Our licensed lay anointers and pastoral staff meet regularly to talk about the well-being of our parishioners, plan home or hospital visits, and reflect on healing and health.
The Outreach Committee
This team organizes our parish support for the needy, focussing especially on Moorelands Camp (for underprivileged kids who otherwise would never experience summer camp), the Flemingdon Park Ministry (a food and clothing bank), and All Saints Community Centre.
The Parish Leadership Team
Once a month, the two churchwardens with their two deputies, the administrator and the priest meet to discuss and manage the day-to-day running of the parish.
The Advisory Board
Elected at the annual meeting, the members of this group meet monthly to report on various elements of parish life, and offer valued wisdom and advice to the Leadership Team. Every meeting is open to all members of the parish.
The ministry of hospitality is given high priority at St Augustine’s. Our ushers (who used to be called sidespeople) welcome and assist all who come for worship.
Each Sunday from 9:45-10:15, we have an informal discussion group that gathers over coffee.
Thursday Morning Breakfast Discussions
Every second Thursday morning (at 7:15 am!), we have a get-together for informal and stimulating conversations on topics of the day (like the world economy, minority rights, and politics).
