Beth Nelson is our parish vocational deacon. This is a part-time position primarily involving liturgical assistance on Sunday mornings and work with adult education.
It was the fall of 1995 that Beth first started attending St. Augustine’s, and she became more and more involved with each liturgical season. She’s done everything from reading, leading intercessions, providing pastoral care, and serving on the Advisory Board to coordinating film nights and the summer Bible study. The parish expressed its desire to raise Beth up as a vocational diaconal candidate, and she was ordained deacon at St. Augustine’s in February 2009.
From 2013 to 2016, she was the part-time Family Ministry Coordinator, designing and writing curriculum; leading our children’s program, WonderKids, on Sunday mornings; and providing opportunities for families – including grandparents! – to explore various seasons in more depth.
Beth works Monday to Friday in church administration at two Anglican churches in Toronto and lives in Richmond Hill (in a basement apartment of the house of her older son and daughter-in-law – along with Naomi, the world’s cutest grandbaby) which makes her daily commute a “triangle” of 75 kilometres/3 hours. Think of her on the roads!
Beth is an Associate of the Anglican Sisterhood of St. John the Divine and serves on the Executive of Liturgy Canada.
