National Indigenous Day of Prayer

Saint Augustine’s will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with a special service on Sunday, June 25th.  The service will honour indigenous culture and recognize the contribution of indigenous spirituality to our heritage.  This will include a Land Acknowledgement, smudging and the Prayer in the Four Directions.  We will celebrate the installation of Chris Harper, the new National Indigenous Archbishop of the National Council of Indigenous People.  The highlight will be our visitor and service leader, Sandra Campbell.

Sandra Campbell – Kanien’kehā:ka Wahta, Wakkwā:ho (English translation: Wahta Mohawk First Nation and Wolf clan).

Since 1992, Sandra has been an Indigenous Traditional Counselor, specialising in addictions, family and child welfare, elderly care, federal corrections, supporting Survivors of Indian Residential Day Schools, Sixties Scoop, homelessness, and other traumatic impacts of colonialism.

Since 1995, Sandra has been an Auntie in the Toronto Indigenous community and has been a Women’s Traditional Drummer. For ten years, Sandra has served as the Social and Pastoral Care Worker at Toronto Urban Native Ministry.

Sandra is a Master of Divinity student at Wycliffe College and is in discernment for ordination with Chris Harper, the new National Indigenous Anglican Archbishop. the Indigenous Anglican Church of Canada. Sandra is a friend of Saint Augustine’s and has led us in indigenous services many times in the past.
