Outreach

The Outreach Committee of St. Augustine’s helps the parish support several ministries that serve the people of our city. These include:

Flemingdon Community Food Bank

Some members have items for the food bank on their weekly shopping list and ensure that the donation basket at the church is regularly filled. Each week, our Outreach team picks up unsold bread and baked goods donated by a local Metro grocery store and delivers them to the food bank.

All Saints Community Centre-Church

This church, located at Dundas and Sherbourne in downtown Toronto, is a place of welcome and advocacy for some of the city’s most marginalized people, many of whom are homeless. Some members of St. Augustine’s support this ministry by regularly volunteering to help prepare the Friday women’s breakfast and collecting and delivering contributions of much-needed clothing, toiletries, and other items.

Refugee sponsorship

In 2016 in partnership with St. Matthew’s Riverdale, St Augustine’s sponsored a refugee family from Syria. We raised money and provided practical assistance in helping  a family of five settle here in Toronto. We continue to support the father’s brother in his application for refugee status in Canada.

We raise funds for these ministries both by direct appeal and through events such as Joan’s Jams (a scrumptious selection of homemade preserves!), named for the late Joan Francis, an enthusiastic supporter of all our outreach activities.
