Outreach

The Outreach Committee of St. Augustine’s helps the parish support several ministries that serve the people of our city. These include:

Flemingdon Community Food Bank

Some members have items for the food bank on their weekly shopping list and ensure that the donation basket at the church is regularly filled. Each week, our Outreach team picks up unsold bread and baked goods donated by COBS Bread on Bayview and delivers them to the food bank.

All Saints Community Centre-Church

This church, located at Dundas and Sherbourne in downtown Toronto, is a place of welcome and advocacy for some of the city’s most marginalized people, many of whom are homeless. Some members of St. Augustine’s support this ministry by cooking special meals and by collecting and delivering contributions of much-needed clothing, toiletries, and other items.

Refugee Sponsorship

Refugee Sponsorship is near and dear to us at St. Augustine’s.  Shortly after Jesus was born, he and his family had to flee to Egypt for fear of King Herod’s rage.  Given that Jesus himself was a refugee for a time, we feel called to support and sponsor refugees seeking a new start in Canada.

Since 2016, we have partnered with AURA (Anglican United Refugee Alliance) to facilitate sponsorship.  In 2016 and 2019, we partnered with two other Anglican parishes to sponsor and settle two different family groupings.  In 2021, we helped a family secure sponsorship status with the Canadian government in order to bring family members to Canada from Iran.  We currently have three files open with AURA.  We give thanks for our most recent safe arrival, a man from Iran who arrived at Christmas 2023. We are eagerly awaiting two more arrivals, hopefully in 2024 or 2025.

If you are looking to lead a sponsorship or are looking for a church to help facilitate a named sponsorship, please begin the process by contacting AURA directly at https://www.auraforrefugees.org

We only take on referrals made to us by AURA.
